What is Swadesh Darshan Scheme?
The ‘Swadesh Darshan Scheme’ has been launched for integrated development of theme based tourists circuits.
‘Swadesh Darshan Scheme’ is a scheme launched by the Government of India, under which the basic amenities of the tourist site are to be improved. The scheme was started by the Indian Tourism Ministry on the year 2014-15, under which two schemes were included.
The first scheme, “Prasad” means the pilgrimage rejuvenation and the spiritual enrichment drive, which is aimed at facilitating the pilgrim centers of all faiths.
On the other hand, the ‘Swadesh Darshan Scheme’ is the second plan for the integrated development of theme-based tourism circuits.
These schemes have been designed to develop the country’s heritage sites and to gain more tourists under the leadership of the Central Government.
What is a tourist Circuit?
A tourist circuit is basically a bunch of places that are connected to each other can be visited under a single trip. Thus, a circuit is like the Golden Triangle in India. Just like the way under the Golden Triangle there are 3 major tourist places under a single tourist’s circuit namely Agra, Jaipur, and Delhi.

Key Features & Objectives of Swadesh Darshan Scheme
To promote India as a global brand and a world-class tourist destination
To establish tourism as a major carrier for economic development and employment generation
To provide overall tourism experience through enhancing tourist attraction
To develop world-class infrastructure in diverse theme based circuits and pilgrim centers
Under this scheme, 13 theme based circuits have been identified (We have mentioned the circuits above; please check the names of the circuits above).
By July 2016, the Ministry of Tourism has approved 25 projects of 21 States and Union Territories under the Swadesh Darshan scheme.
The Ministry has approved 9 projects of 8 states of North-East, 3 projects for tribal areas of Nagaland, Chhattisgarh and Telangana and 2 projects for Buddhist circuit in Bihar and Madhya Pradesh.
It is worth mentioning that in the budget of 2015-16, the amount of INR 600 crore was allocated for the Swadesh Darshan scheme.
